Geography AS/A2 Level at King Edward VI Grammar School
AS Level - AQA
A2 Level - AQA
What is the course about?
At AS, all students will study core human and physical geography. In each area of study students will consider the values and attitudes of decision makers, consider their own values and attitudes to the issues being studied and support their learning of ideas through the study of specific case studies. Students will also develop a variety of geographical skills, which will broaden and deepen existing knowledge and be employed with a greater degree of independence.
Students will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of both physical and human geography in addition to completing external fieldwork. Topics studied will include water and carbon cycles, global ecosystems, global governance, hazards, resource security.
Where can it lead?
Geography is an excellent ‘bridging’ subject between the Arts and Sciences. It combines well with a range of other AS and A2 levels and, if studied post A Level, can lead to a wide range of careers in planning, transport, commerce and industry. Careers based on using and applying knowledge of Physical Geography are also available to appropriately qualified students.
The course will be assessed through a mixture of examinations and written coursework of around 5.000 words.
