Manufacturing Engineering BTEC Diploma Level 3 at Derwentside College

Course description

This is a practical work related course based on realistic workplace situations.

You will learn about the employment area you have chosen and develop the skills you need to start or progress a career.


Course content

The Diploma course is made up of 120 credits.

These can include:


  • Communications
  • Health & Safety
  • Mathematics Engineering Project
  • Mechanical Principles


  • Engineering Drawing
  • Business Operations
  • Engineering Design
  • Computer Aided Design
  • Fabrication Processes
  • CNC
  • Properties of Materials

Entry requirements

To join a Level 3 programme you will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, to include English Language, Maths or Science.


Assessment is by graded assignments which allow students to provide evidence against set criteria for each unit.

Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction depending on the evidence produced.

All units are graded individually and then a grade for the overall qualification is awarded.

Future opportunities

  • Careers in a wide range of engineering disciplines are available as apprentices, engineers and technicians. -
  • There is a clear route through to membership of professional bodies including incorporated and chartered status.
  • Progression available to higher education courses such as HNC/D or degree in a variety of engineering disciplines.
