Chemistry A - AS Level at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is designed for students who would like to further their study of Chemistry. Students should take Chemistry at A Level if they are interested in understanding the scientific area of reactions and particles and wish to further their understanding of the basic concepts of Chemistry studied at GCSE level. The course is of a practical nature and students will be expected to plan, carry out and write up practical experiments that they complete throughout their time of study. This is an excellent course for anyone interested in studying Science in higher education leading to careers in any scientific field such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Forensic Science, etc.
A qualification in A Level Chemistry will prepare students for higher education. In particular, students could progress onto undergraduate courses in: Chemistry, Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Forensic Science or any other science related subject.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs, Grade A* - C. You should have a minimum of Grade B in GCSE Triple Science, Additional Science and Maths, and a minimum of a Grade C in GCSE English Language. You may have taken Chemistry as a separate subject at GCSE or as part of double award GCSE Science. BTEC Science and Applied GCSE Science are not suitable for progression on to A Level Chemistry; only to BTEC courses.
