Government and Politics at Plume College

Course description

At AS Level Government and Politics examines the structures of authority and power in the UK - legislature, executive and judiciary - and how these differ from those of other political systems. Students develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics and the relationship between political ideas, institutions and processes.

At A2 level, students develop a thorough knowledge of democracy and participation, the rights and responsibilities of the individual, ideologies, political theories and traditions, looking at UK Government and Politics.

All students are encouraged to engage with contemporary politics and current political debates through using the internet, reading newspapers, watching the news, and participating in discussions.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade B in English Language. Students require a basic working knowledge of current affairs, the ability to write essays and convey their own viewpoints as well as those of others in a clear and coherent way.
