Meeting Individual Care & Support Needs

Work Experience in Health & Social Care
You will gain relevant work experience in your placement (one day per week). This will be assessed via coursework.
Sociological Perspectives
You will look at sociological issues affecting Health & Social Care. This will be assessed via coursework.
Psychological perspectives
You will gain an insight into the main psychological perspectives and how they apply to Health and Social Care. This will be assessed via coursework.
Physiological Disorders & their Care
You will look at disorders such as Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease and others. You will learn about the signs, symptoms and process of diagnosis as well as care pathways and support systems. This is assessed via coursework.
Year 2
Anatomy & Physiology for Health & Social Care
This unit is assessed via an exam.
Enquiries into Current Research in Health & Social Care
This unit is assessed via a controlled assessment.
Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
This unit is assessed via coursework.
Promoting Public Health
This unit will be assessed via coursework.
Infection Prevention & Control

Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs

Entry requirements
You must have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English. If you have studied for a BTEC Level 2 in Health and Social Care you must have achieved a Merit grade or above.
Assessment
The course is assessed through a mix of examinations, coursework and controlled assessments. The course focuses on the vocational aspects of Health & Social Care so you will find a lot of teaching is based on work experience and placement visits or case studies and role plays.
Future opportunities
BTEC Level 3 qualifications earn you UCAS points, allowing you to progress to Degree. Students can go in to careers such as nursing, teaching, midwifery, social work, occupational therapy and many more. The valuable practical experience you will gain will also be useful if you decide to go straight into employment in the Health and Social Care sector. Skills learnt on this course are transferable to a range of other careers, expanding your future career prospects.
