Course description

Art and Media has a profound impact on the way we live our lives. This course will encourage you to explore different forms and processes and communicate using a variety of traditional and modern techniques to produce creative art and media outcomes such as drawings, photographs, graphic design and research presentations. By the end of the course you will be able to explore, understand and apply visual language and terminology to a variety of tasks.

Course content

Unit 1: Media Sectors and Audiences
You will learn how different media sectors (moving image, audio, games, websites, publishing) operate and how media products are produced and distributed. You will consider the impact that the media has on audiences and how different audiences are targeted by the media. There will be a 1 hour exam including multiple choice questions, short answer questions and two questions which will require you to write a more detailed response. You will sit the exam in January, with a re-sit opportunity in May.

Unit 2: Planning and Pitching a Digital Media Product
You will research the short film sector and watch a range of films to get creative ideas for your own work. You will come up with at least two ideas for short films, before developing one of them into a full screenplay. You will pitch your film ideas and respond to feedback.

Unit 3: Digital Moving Image Production
Having developed a screenplay in unit 2, you will work in small production teams to plan, shoot and edit a short film. You will need to analyse a range of short films to demonstrate your understanding through written work.
