Art And Design (Creative Digital Media) L3 Extended Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design Creative Digital Media is studied either as a two year programme or a one year progression route for those completing the Level 3 (90 Credit) Diploma in Art and Design Creative Digital Media. The full Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The first year of the two year programme will introduce students to a broad subject range and enable them to experience and develop new skills. In the second year of the programme (or progression year) students will not only continue to be introduced to new skills, but they will also develop a greater sense of independence and creativity extending, refining and developing skills working towards a specialist subject area. Students will also be able to extend their study by covering additional activities such as life drawing.

- Special Effects for Film & TV

Course content

The Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Students who have completed a 90 credit diploma course will be required to complete units amounting to an additional 90 credits.

Learners would study a broad range of units. Year 1 units include:
- Visual Recording in Art & Design
- Contextual Influences in Art & Design
- Communication through Art & Design
- Materials, Techniques & Processes in Art & Design
- Ideas and Concepts in Art & Design
- Digital Photography
- Film Production
- 2D Animation
- Digital Illustration 

Year two units include: 

- 3D Computer Modelling 
- 3D Computer Animation
- Digital Illustration
- Final Major Project

The second year will conclude with an eight week final major project of the learner's own choice. This project is designed to allow the learner the opportunity to select and combine the skills learned into a final piece of work that will be exhibited at the end of year show.

Students without GCSE at C grade or above in English and/or Maths would be required to study these subjects as part of their programme of study.

Entry requirements

- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including Maths and English.
- Successful completion of the Level 3 (90 Credit) Diploma in Art and Design Creative Digital Media where personal targets have been met. 
- A satisfactory reference
- Mature students are welcome and entry requirements may be flexible.

Assessment

Your progress will be measured in a number of ways including practical projects, presentations and written assignments that will be assessed internally. You will receive feedback in the form of verbal feedback from your tutor, written feedback from an assignment or project, and grading of your work. Final unit grades will be allocated at unit completion usually at the end of a course. The course is continually assessed with no exams, although your work may be sampled by an external moderator. 
Students studying Maths and/ or English will have formal exams.

Future opportunities

Successful students may wish to progress to a foundation diploma in Art and Design, a foundation degree, degree or Higher National Diploma. Students also may wish to seek employment on completion.
