Wood Occupations - Bench Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

Wood Occupations includes Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery. An advanced Apprentice will work towards the NVQ Diploma Level 3 in Wood Occupations and for the diploma Level 3. The Apprenticeship can be studied through day release.

Course content

The framework for an Apprentice in Bench Joinery Level 3 includes: The NVQ Diploma Level 3 (work based), the Diploma in Bench Joinery Level 3 (college based), Functional skills in Maths and English at Level 2 and PLTS (Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills). Entry requirements

You must be employed in the relevant industry. Successful completion of a relevant level 2 course and Grade C GCSE maths and Grade C GCSE English or equivalent. You will need to take an SLE test during interview which will measure your competence to do an Apprenticeship at Level 3.


A trained and skilled assessor will visit you in the workplace to monitor your progress and to assess your skills and knowledge. The assessor will give you targets to achieve until the next visit.

Future opportunities

Full completion of the qualification will allow you to progress to further training courses such as 'Architecture, Surveying and the Built Environment BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 or other Higher Education courses.

Further information

During your time at college, theory sessions are taught in fully equipped classrooms with Smart Boards and other teaching and learning devices. Workshops are used to deliver the practical training.
