Course description

Description: UNIT 1 Competitive Markets 50% of the AS marks 25% of Total A Level How the price mechanism allocates resources in markets; supply and demand analysis; market failure. The exam lasts 1 hour 15 minutes and consists of supported multiple choice questions and data response question (out of a choice of 2). UNIT 2 Managing the Economy 50% of AS marks 25% of Total A Level Looks at the whole UK economy. Measures of economic performance and the main objectives and instruments of economic policy. The exam lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes and consists of one data response question out of a choice of 2 questions. UNIT 3 Business Economics and Economic Efficiency 40% of A2 20% of Total A Level Looks at the nature of competition between companies; different market structures; government intervention to promote competition in markets. The exam lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes and consists of supported multiple choice questions and one data response question out of a choice of 2 questions. UNIT 4 The Global Economy 60% of A2 30% of Total A Level Application, analysis and evaluation of economic models in a global context; assessment of policies which might be used to deal with economic problems. The exam last 2 hours and consists of answering one essay question (out of a choice of 3 questions) and one data response question (out of a choice of 2).

Entry requirements

Previous knowledge of the subject is not required though students should have a good Mathematical ability to interpret data. Students are expected to achieve above average results at GCSE to start the course.
