Course description

The course consists of the following units:

  • Undertake an Investigative Project in the Land-based Sector
  • Undertake and Review Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries
  • Understanding Livestock Breeding and Nutrition
  • Understand Agricultural Forage Crop Production
  • Undertake Beef Production

  • Understand and Promote Animal Health

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?

The programme gives you the experience, knowledge and qualifications necessary for a wide range of responsible posts in the agricultural industry.  If you are flexible, enjoy working with livestock, crops and machinery and wish to progress to a career at supervisory and management level, then this is the course for you.

Entry requirements

 

You should:-

  • Have some practical farming experience or an interest in agriculture
  • Be at least 16 years of age at the beginning of the course

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

  • BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Agriculture
  • 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above to include both Maths and English.

Successful college interview

Assessment

The programme is made up of separate units.  Academic and practical progress is continually assessed via case studies, assignments, reports, practicals and end of unit tests throughout the year so you are building up the qualification as you study.

Financial information

There will be extra costs for study tours and visits.  There is a study tour in the UK in the first year and a three week study tour to Taratahi Agricultural College in New Zealand in the second year of study.

Students are also given the opportunity to take legislative tests through our rural skills centre i.e. pesticides, tractor driving, etc.  Prices are available upon request.

Future opportunities

The course provides progression on to higher education, with an already sound knowledge of the sector.  This qualification will also allow you to gain employment on many types of agricultural holding or in one of the many ancillary industries serving agriculture.
