Business (Project Management) - Level 3 Extended Diploma at Blackpool and The Fylde College

Course description

The Level 3 Edexcel Extended Diploma is a practical business-related course equivalent to 3 GCE A Levels and provides both a broad foundation of business education and a firm basis for specialism in Project Management. This two-year programme is full-time, Monday to Friday (16 to 18 hours per week).

During the first year of Study you will cover the following modules:

  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Developing Teams in business
  • Managing a Business Event
  • Understanding Retail

In your second year you will go on to study:

  • Business Project Management

  • Website Design Strategy
  • Market Research
  • Aspects of Contract & Business Law

Course content

The first year of the course is structured to provide you with a broad understanding of business, and all pathways study the same units in the first year. During the second year you specialise in a particular area of business. The pathways include:

  • Finance and Accountancy
  • Marketing
  • Project Management
  • Human Resources and Law
  • Retail
How is the Course Delivered

The knowledge and understanding for the units are taught in comfortable rooms using interactive technology to deliver the information. You will be guided carefully through each topic in a well-structured programme and assignments will be broken down into bite-size chunks to help you to achieve them. Tutors will also be available to give you assistance with your assignments through assignment workshops which form part of your timetable. In addition to the learning that takes place in the College, you will also be expected to take part in the programme of educational visits and speakers which will help you to apply your knowledge to 'real' organisations.

 

Assessment

All units are internally set. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit and Distinction.

Future opportunities

The majority (80%) of students progress to Higher Education, many choosing to study Degrees in Management or Accounting at our University Centre. Our students also gain employment and Apprenticeships with local businesses. There are many opportunities for entrepreneur and employees with a sound understanding of finance, marketing, sales and management. The qualification has been designed in close collaboration with industry, it is fully supported by the Sector Skills Council and a range of organisations and employers meaning it is a highly respected route into employment and HE.
