Sport - Football Academy - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (90 Credit Diploma Route) - 16-18 only at Harrow College

Course description

Boys aged 16-18 years with proven football playing ability selected by trial who seek a first class education and have predicted grades A* to C at GCSE level. This is the first year of a two year course that will help you to develop skills and knowledge required for employment within a variety of sectors of the sport industry.

Course content

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) YEAR 1 Unit 1: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport Unit 2: The Physiology of Fitness Unit 3: Assessing Risk in Sport Unit 4: Fitness Training and Programming Unit 7: Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Unit 11: Sports Nutrition Unit 17: Psychology for Sports Performance plus two additional units to make up 9 units

YEAR 2 Unit 27: Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport Unit 28: The Athlete's Lifestyle Unit 5: Sports Coaching Unit 8: Practical Team Sports Unit 19: Analysis of Sports Performance Unit 22: Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport plus additional units to make up the full extended diploma.

Training is mapped out over the week with games played on a Wednesday. College classes will take place over the same five day period and classes will consist of a variety of lectures, videos, outside speakers, research, student presentations, online interactive sessions.

Entry requirements

Successfully selected from trials. 5 GCSE Grades A*-C including English, Maths and Science. A Merit at BTEC Level 2 Diploma qualification plus C grade in GCSE English and Maths. Please note, it will be a compulsory part of the course to wear sportswear, which you will need to purchase. Further details will be given at enrolment.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, presentations and practical assessments.

Financial information

Fees payable are shown above or in the Prospectus for Adult Learners. Details of the concessions available and who may qualify are shown on the fees page on the web site and in the Prospectus for Adult Learners. If the College cancels a course before it starts you will be given a full refund. If a course closes for any reason the fees for the remaining part of the course will be refunded. If the college receives a written notice of withdrawal from you at least three working days before a course starts you will receive a refund of the tuition fees. (If you enrol within the three days prior to the start of the course you will not be entitled to a refund). All registration and examination fees are non-refundable. Residential and materials fees will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances.

Future opportunities

Students who are successful can progress to employment in the sports industry. Students can also progress to University to take degrees or HND in Sports, Fitness and Health related courses.

Equipment or materials:

Textbook approximate £20, USB memory stick, plastic wallets, files. Appropriate football boots. Academy kit is mandatory.

Additional costs:

A fee for material costs for uniform/kit and workbooks.
