Geography AS & A Level at Felpham Community College

Course description

The A level course consists of the following units:

Year 12

  • Topic 1: Tectonic processes and hazards
  • Topic 2: Landscape systems, processes and change
  • Topic 3: Globalisation
  • Topic 4: Shaping places (regenerating places)

Year 13

  • Coursework: independent investigation
  • Topic 5: The water cycle and water insecurity
  • Topic 6: The carbon cycle and energy security
  • Topic 7: Superpowers
  • Topic 8: Global development and connections

The geography course enables students to engage critically with real world issues and places, apply their own geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to make sense of the world around them and help to prepare them to succeed in their chosen pathway

Entry requirements

A minimum of five A* to C at GCSE including grade B or above in geography if studied.

Assessment

  • Paper 1: 30% of qualification
  • Paper 2: 30% of qualification
  • Paper 3: 20% of qualification Independent Investigation 20% of investigation
