Art and Design (Textiles) at Hazel Grove High School

Course description

This is an exciting course aimed at students who are interested in all areas of Textile Design. Candidates will have the opportunity of working in a variety of textiles media that will include fashion design, interior design and creative textiles. Candidates will also be made aware of technologies and processes, including traditional and new technologies. They will also gain an understanding of a variety of embellishing techniques, such as fabric printing, tie-dye, batik, transfer and fabric manipulation and construction, including felt making.

Students choose to study textile design at A level for many reasons. They may have a particular career oath they wish to follow, such as Fashion Designer, Fashion Buyer, Textile Designer, Interior Designer, Fashion Magazine Editor, Stylist or any aspect of the creative industries. Many choose A level textile design because they enjoy the subject and it offers a welcome balance with their other A level subjects.

Entry requirements

In the main, entry depends on the attitudes and aspirations of the prospective Sixth Formers. All students should be able to demonstrate willingness to progress and a desire to do well. You must show a commitment to making the best use of opportunities available and an ability to succeed with the course you choose. In general, if you wish to study an Advanced Level course you will need a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above including Maths and English. A minimum of a B GCSE grade must be achieved in a subject if you want to study it for A level. Many subjects can be studied at A Level with a B grade in a similar subject, if the student has not studied that subject at GCSE. See individual subject details.
