Sport (Top Up) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and experience needed to improve physiologically and psychologically and to offer a potential route to further study at Higher Education level. Learners will study an additional 9 modules to build on their knowledge from the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma.

Course content

Modules covered may include current issues, physical education and the care of young people, sport as a business, sports psychology, organising an event and other optional units to make up the 180 credits required.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grade 4 (grade C) or above, which must include Maths, English Language, Science and PE and successful completion of the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Sport.


Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.

Future opportunities

Learners who do not enter Higher Education could progress directly in to career roles, such as leisure assistant, assistant sports coach, gym instructor, or could become involved in the administration of sport and leisure.
