Music A Level at Ponteland Community High School

Course description


For students who enjoy composing and performing music and want to further improve their skills

For students who enjoy listening to a wide range of music and want the skills needed for a deeper understanding

Course content

Component 1 – 1 performance

Component 2 – 2 compositions

Component 3 – Appraisal – 6 Areas of study with 3 sets of work in each: vocal music; instrumental music; music for film; popular music and jazz; fusions; new directions

Entry requirements

C in Music or grade 5+ on any musical instrument


Component 1 is assessed by submitting recording (30%)

Component 2 is assessed by submitting recordings and scores (30%)

Component 3 is a ssessed by a 2 hour examination (40%)
