Course content

On this two year course, you will develop your knowledge and techniques and be encouraged in the entrepreneurial spirit which underscores our broad, creative and successful music industry. Different aspects of music and the music industry are covered including: musical and performing techniques, media and promotional skills, events management, songwriting and composition. You will be encouraged to develop acts and record work for an audience and you will be taught how to put this into the market place and plan a portfolio career. Session player skills, building an ensemble, music production techniques, theory and aural skills are a few of the units you will cover.

As well as performing regularly in Strode Theatre and around college, you will be encouraged to perform at venues in Somerset. This culminates in a major project in the second year which is modelled upon planning a mini tour to promote your acts and recordings. This is a real launch pad into the skills needed in the thriving music industry in this country.

This course complements our Music Production and Media courses; there may be opportunities to work with these students to shape and produce recorded products and market acts through video and podcasts.
