IT Advanced Diploma at University Academy Keighley

Course description

The Diploma is a great way of combining class work with hands on experience. This new qualification allows lots of opportunity to come into contact with people who are employed in this industry. You will learn how to work with other people and express yourself confidently in a work environment by developing personal, learning and thinking skills.

Course content

Learners studying for the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology must achieve the Principal Learning Qualification, a Project Qualification, Functional Skills at level 2 in English, ICT and Mathematics and any relevant combination of qualifications from additional and specialist learning that equals or exceeds 360 guided learning hours. The Principal Learning in the Advanced Diploma in IT is made up from 7 units which are all mandatory. They are as follows:

  • The Potential of Technology
  • Understanding Organisations
  • Professional Development
  • Creating Technological Solutions
  • Managing Technological Systems
  • Multimedia and Digital Projects
  • Making Projects Successful
The level 3 Advanced qualification is equivalent to 3 A level awards

Entry requirements

You will need to demonstrate a general interest in the Information Technology sector. You will be required to attend an interview and meet the minimum entry requirements for a level 3 qualification.

There are several ways this course can be assessed:

  • By building up a portfolio of evidence
  • Work placement
  • Through practical demonstrations
  • Practical test
  • Written examination

Future opportunities

The qualification will provide opportunities for progression into employment within the IT industry or progression onto higher education courses such as a degree in IT.

Further information

You will be expected to provide basic equipment such as pens, pencils, paper. You will also be expected to find some of your own resources fro practical sessions and your portfolios. There may be a requirement to pay some travel costs going out to employers’ premises for work experience opportunities.
