Art A Level at Ashfield School

Course description

Art is a subject that develops creative and analytical thinking skills alongside practical visual communication techniques. You will develop skills, techniques and processes across a wide range of material areas. You will also learn how to analyse, evaluate and respond to the work of other artists.

Course content

Component 1 (60%) Coursework. Students are able to acquire their own skills and create ideas in the areas they most enjoy. This ultimately leads to more independent creative, analytical and evaluative development in the form of a personal project.

Component 2 (40%) Examination. The externally set assignment will enable students to produce a unit of work responding to the chosen question. This ends in 15 hours of unaided work.

Entry requirements

A GCSE equivalent to five passes at grade 6 or above (including English) or other related Level 2 qualifications OR by interview.

Future opportunities

All AS/A Level Art courses can lead into higher education at college or university or into employment. Career prospects include: teaching, graphic design, fine art, film and TV design, fashion design, advertising, Computer Game design.
