Course description

By studying Languages you will improve your knowledge of the contemporary culture and languages in French/German/Spanish speaking countries.  You will develop your linguistic skills - listening, reading, speaking and writing.  You will improve your ability to analyse and discuss modern day issues.  You will be encouraged to play an active part in lessons.

Course content

AS Topics:

Media, Popular culture, Healthy living/lifestyle, family relationships.

A2 Topics:

Environment, The Multicultural Society, Contemporary Social Issues, Cultural Topic.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above.  (Students will need to obtain a grade 6 in their chosen language and English at 5).


You wil be assessed in all skill areas - listening, speaking, reading and writing as follows:

Paper 1 - Listening, reading and writing (translation from the target language into English)

Paper 2 - Translation from English into the target language and writing about a film or literary text.

Paper 3 - Speaking - independent research task and general discussion.

Future opportunities

Translation/interpretation, Business Marketing/Advertising, Tourism, Manufacturing, Law, Management, Billingual Secretary, Journalism/Broadcasting, Armed Forces, Teaching or Pilot.
