Maths AS and A Level at The Oxford Academy

Course description

This AS/A Level Maths course is aimed at students who have achieved a grade B or higher in their GCSE Maths and aims to extend and challenge students’ knowledge and understanding. It develops important mathematical concepts and gives students an appreciation of where mathematics is applied. AS/A Level Maths will support the study of other subjects such as Physics, Engineering, Business or Psychology.

Through the study of AS/ A Level Maths you will learn many transferable skills, covering both core and applied aspects of maths.

Course content

There are a number of potential careers leading from an A Level including:

  •  Engineering
  •  Accountant
  •  Meteorologist
  •  Animator
  •  Computer scientist
  •  Computer games designer
  •  Architect
  •  Teacher

There are many opportunities for further study in any of these fields in a range of universities. AS/ A Level Maths would also support Apprenticeships in Accountancy and Finance or Engineering. Another course that might interest you is Level 3 Engineering.

Entry requirements

5 A*-C including English level 5 and a minimum Maths level 6/7

    • We all know it’s not just about what you learn, it’s about how you learn and where. With that in mind, we have created a dedicated Advance Centre which includes its own common room, refectory and study area, just for sixth formers. This gives you the space you need to do joint work, get creative or just have a break. You will also have access to the brilliant library with its specific section for careers and higher education, as well as all the resources you’ll need for your courses. You will be able to use all of our sports facilities, regardless of whether you’re studying a sports related course or not. These include:

      • Sports Hall for futsal, basketball, netball, volleyball, trampolining… anything you want to do indoors
      • 3G Dome – the only covered 3G in the county
      • Astro pitch for hockey and football
      • Multi Use Games Area so you can do a whole host of things here; tennis, netball, table tennis 
      • Grass pitches for rugby, football, lacrosse
      • Physiotherapy room with physio support available by appointment  from  Oxford United physios just in case you need help with an injury
      • Dance studio
      • Fitness studio
      • Cricket nets

      We also have art rooms, a food technology room, a fully functioning theatre and drama studio, recording studio and a hair and beauty salon with treatments available from students studying Beauty.

      When you’re not studying there’s plenty of other activities you can be doing in state of the art facilities. Advance isn’t just about helping you pass your exams, it’s about helping you become the best person you can be and that means you’ve used the space to explore what you love.
