Engineering: First Extended Certificate - Level 2 (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

This programme has been specifically designed to give young people the necessary skills to begin their career in Engineering. 

It will cover a broad range of Engineering activities and disciplines within the sector and forms part of the foundation learning.

Course content

The course is a 45 credit extended certificate with subjects such as:

  • The Engineered World
  • Investigating an Engineered Product
  • Mathematics for Engineering
  • Electrical and Mechanical Science For Engineering
  • CNC Programming
  • Computer Aided Engineering
  • Machining Techniques
  • Health & Safety in Engineering
  • Interpreting and using Engineering Information

You will also follow a programme of study to complement this award including functional skills, Maths and English and Experience of Work.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs A-D or equivalent Pass level, including Maths and Science.  If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 5.0 or above.  You will also have to complete the engineering induction programme.

Future opportunities

You may wish to progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in a relevant subject, or undertake a modern apprenticeship scheme within the sector.
