Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Bitterne Park School

Course description

This course provides an opportunity to study Drama and Theatre as a single subject. You will work in specialist facilities, be involved in a variety of workshops developing expressive skills.

  • Unit 1 – Exploration of Drama and Theatre. This unit explores how plays are written for the theatre. You will be taught to analyse and interpret plays with an understanding of how they are performed.
  • Unit 2 – Theatre Texts in Performance. A performance examination, usually in late May. You will complete two performances: one a monologue or duologue, the other a group piece.
  • Unit 3 – Exploration of Dramatic Performance. You will create a unique and original group performance that will be performed in front of an identified audience.
  • Unit 4 – Theatre Texts in Context. This is a two and a half hour written examination.

Why this course

This course is ideal for students interested in developing skills learnt in GCSE/BTEC. It is designed to develop students as well-rounded performers as well as developing your knowledge of the rehearsal process through the research and practical application of practitioner’s theories.

Entry requirements

Students studying Drama & Theatre Studies should have a BTEC or GCSE in Drama/Performing Arts at a minimum of a Pass or Grade C.
