Sport and Exercise Science Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Mid Cheshire College

Course description

This course is a theory based course with practical elements in a variety of units. All students will study the following units: • Practical individual sports • Analysis of sports performance • Sports coaching • Research Project for sport & exercise • Work Experience • Sports Biomechanics • Instructing Physical Exercise • Sports Injuries • Sport & Exercise Massage

Course content

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment. As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and Maths development as part of the core qualification. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent with successful completion of the Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit Sport & Exercise Sciences qualification.


Continuous assessment through projects, assignments, presentations & practical observations. The final assessment is based on a portfolio which you will produce over the year.

Future opportunities

You will be able to progress on to our Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching & Physical Education or another higher level sports qualification, involving the teaching of physical education or sports science, sports coaching, sports therapy or sports development. There are many employment opportunities within the sports and leisure industry at a variety of levels.
