Travel & Tourism BTEC Diploma-Extended Diploma Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

If you are dreaming of working in an industry where the world really is your oyster, tourism is your natural career destination. But to compete in the employment market, you will need good, recognised qualifications.

Course content

This valuable and interesting study programme could be your passport to that dream career in this fast-paced and dynamic world. The qualification includes units in entertainment, the cruise sector, hospitality, overseas holiday representatives, customer service and developing fun activities for children. What is more, developing air cabin crew skills is also part of the programme at Petroc, so welcome aboard Petroc Air.

Not surprisingly, work experience forms an exciting and valuable part of the programme and is an assessed unit in its own right. In the second year, you will be given the opportunity to design your own European experience by planning and going on an exciting overseas residential, previous locations have included Barcelona, London and Amsterdam.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade C or above

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent, to include English Language, and Maths, or a full Level 2 vocational qualification at Merit or above.


All units are assessed through assignments which are set and marked by the lecturers. These assignments form the basis of continuous assessment of your achievements. The final grades awarded for units will be either pass, merit or distinction and from these an overall grade is awarded for the qualification. This grade is then converted to university tariff points if required.

Future opportunities

This qualification can lead you into a Foundation Degree in Events Management at Petroc, or to apply to other universities to study an honours degree in a related subject. Exciting jobs in the industry include cabin crew, marketing, tourist boards, visitor attraction management, event planning, cruise ships and holiday representatives.

Further information

Theory sessions take place in a variety of classrooms, most of which are equipped with the latest white board technology. There will be access to specialist travel resources and practical facilities including "Petroc Air Cabin".
