Preparation for Further Education at City College Coventry

Course description

Preparation for further education courses give you the chance to get ready for the demands of further study at Level 1 and 2.

You will learn a range of employability, self and study management, and improve your English and maths.  You will also get the chance to learn new skills in your chosen vocational area.  Being part of our access to FE programme will also help raise your confidence.

Preparation for FE courses will suit you if you have few or no formal qualifications, or are unsure about the educational or job routes you will take and you want to progress onto a further education course in the future.

Course content

The course is a tailor-made full-time programme which will help you to develop your personal effectiveness, employability and study skills alongside the core subjects of English and maths. You will also gain experience in vocational subjects including:

  • Construction
  • Motor Vehicle
  • Hair & Beauty
  • Information Technology
  • Sport & Public Services
  • Care
  • Creative Industries

Courses are at entry level and level 1 to give you the chance to study at a pace that is right for you so you can achieve your best.

These courses are particularly appropriate if you have left school and want to make a fresh start with your education, as you can progress onto the English and maths study programme or onto a level 1/2 programme in a vocational subject.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to get onto these courses; you’ll just need an interview and assessment with a friendly member of the teaching team.


Assessment will include:

  • Course Work
  • Assignments
  • Online Tests
  • Written Exams

Some parts of the course will be assessed by course tutors and verified by an awarding body.
