Course content

You will be able to develop and build on the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills acquired at GCSE. You will also develop understanding of the language in a variety of contexts and genres. You will learn about the contemporary society, cultural background and Polish heritage. You will have the opportunity to practise translation and interpreting techniques.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course but taking GCSE Polish exam prior to this course would be advisable.

Assessment

You will be assessed on a regular basis in class. There will be end of topic tests, mock exams and finally the external exams at the end of year 12 (AS Polish) and 13 (A2 Polish).

During the course we cover the following topics: Day-to-day issues, Contemporary Society, Environment and Citizenship, Working World, The International Context. Additionally, A2 students will study Literary topics (The fight for independence as a theme in Polish literature; Moral and social issues as presented in Polish drama) as well as Non-literary topics (Poland and the Poles during World War II; The films of Andrzej Wajda - 'Ashes and Diamonds' and 'Man of Marble'.

We use various teaching and learning styles which allow students to develop a wide range of the Key Skills.

You will study at Cardinal Wiseman School. There will four lessons per week taught by a Polish native speaker. You will be able ask the teacher for support, in person or via e-mail. You can travel to school on several public buses (10, 11, 12, 22, 32) or use your own transport.
