Mathematics (Further) AS/A Level at Beverley High School

Course description

There is no coursework in this specification.

You must also study Mathematics to do this course.

Course content

AS Level - Three modules will be studied:

Further Pure Maths 1, Decision 1, Decision 2.

Teaching will be shared equally between BHS and BGS.

There will be two 60-minute lessons per week at each school.

 

A Level - Three Modules will be studied:

Further Pure Maths 2, Further Pure Maths 3, Mechanics 2/Stats 2.

The teaching will be shared as in Y12.

Entry requirements

AS Level - Grade A* or A in GCSE Mathematics.

A Level - Satisfactory performance in Y12; Grade E or higher at AS.

Assessment

AS Level - One 90-minute examination unit for each Decision 1 and Decision 2 and Further Pure Maths 1 will be taken in June of Y12.

A Level - One 90-minute examination unit for each of Further Pure 2, Further Pure 3 and Mechanics 2 will be taken in June of Y13.

Future opportunities

Although most universities do not state that A level Further Mathematics is as an entry requirement for Engineering and Science based degree courses, it is a distinct benefit to have this qualification if you would like to study at one of the more prestigious universities. Also an AS or A2 qualification in Further Mathematics is recommended for studying Mathematics, Engineering and Science based courses at university.

Further information

Students will be set approximately 1 hour of work from every mathematics lesson. This work should be completed for the next lesson with that teacher.

    • Beverley High School is a Group 6, five-form entry girls' comprehensive within the East Riding of Yorkshire. 816 girls are currently on roll including 120 girls in the Sixth Form. The School, founded in 1908, has developed since 1973 from a grammar school into a fully comprehensive 11-18 establishment. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in September 2008.

      Beverley High School is long established with an excellent record and considerable achievements in academic work, music, drama, art and sport. We are particularly concerned to develop each girl's good qualities to the full. The school has a long tradition of successful education and enjoys a high reputation within the community, both at local and county level. The school features in the “Good Schools’ Guide”.

      Subject departments are housed in purpose-built rooms set amidst fine grounds. We have a dedicated Library and Sixth Form Block. A Sports Hall was opened in September 2006 and an Art/Technology Centre opened in September 2008.
