Computing Diploma Level 2 at West Suffolk College
This course is for learners seeking a nationally recognised qualification in Computing in preparation for employment or progression onto the IT Practitioners Extended Diploma Level 3.
This is a one year full-time course, which covers a range of IT and IT Industry specific topics including: use and configuration of industry standard hardware and software systems, working with networks, basic software development, website design and working within the IT Industry.
Over the life of the course, learners will undertake a range of practical projects in our purpose built and well equipped computer rooms. The design of the course promotes a hands-on practical engagement with the systems and processes.
In addition, learners will be required to complete a number of assessments. Each assessment varies but most will have a practical computing element. The assessment is mainly carried out by inspection of the work learners produce, including some reports, but there are no “end of year exams”.
Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects in each academic year.
Either a range of passes at GCSE level which include English and Mathematics to D/E level or an equivalent qualification. Applicants also need to have an interest in, and an aptitude for computing.
The College offers a wide menu of Level 2 Diplomas. We will work with all learners in their first six weeks at College to place them on the appropriate Diploma programme that best meets their individual needs and best ensures their success. Within this course, learners will have the opportunity to take either Edexcel Level 2 Diploma in Information Technology Practitioners or Edexcel Level 2 Extended Certificate in Information Technology Practitioners.
