Religion, Philosophy and Ethics A Level at Camborne Science and International Academy

Course description

RPE is optional for all KS5 students, it can be studied through discreet lessons of five 100 minute sessions per fortnight. It is a popular choice at A Level, and is a vibrant, challenging and stimulating subject held in high regard by universities.


At AS Level our students cover two units of work. Philosophy of Religion focuses on ancient Greek influences on the philosophy of religion it looks at Judaeo-Christian influences on the philosophy of religion, traditional arguments for the existence of God and challenges to religious belief.

In the second unit of work, we  look at Religious Ethics, focusing on ethical theories and applied ethics topics.

At A2 Level our students cover two main units of work based on “Philosophy of Religion”, where they look at religious language, Experience and religion, Nature of God, Life and death and the Miracle. In a second unit, students look at Religious Ethics, focusing on Meta-Ethics, Free will and determinism, Conscience, Virtue ethics and Applied Ethics topics.
A2 RPE is assessed through the OCR exam board. Exams are based on the two units of work, one x 90 minute exam for Philosophy and one x 90 minute exam for Ethics.
