Business Studies A Level at South Axholme Academy

Course description

A level Business will give you an exciting insight into the dynamic world of Business. It is not just a theoretical subject, it is about real life.

You will learn about Business and the way it operates in today’s society. You will investigate problems which real businesses are currently facing and use your initiative to develop possible solutions.

Course content

You will study a wide variety of topics including: Enterprise, Marketing, Ethics, Human Resources, Accounting and Finance, International Trade, Economics, Environmental Factors, Production, the Digital Age and Management.

Emphasis throughout the entire course is on problem solving and decision making. You will learn how to use a wide range of contemporary business tools and apply them to today’s businesses.

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve a Grade B or above in GCSE Mathematics and English. No prior study of Business is required for taking A level Business Studies.


Questions are a mixture of short answer, multiple choice and case studies with data analysis and extended responses. The course is 100% exam based.

Future opportunities

A level in Business Studies is a highly valuable, flexible and sought after qualification. Obviously it is extremely useful for students seeking employment or applying for higher education courses in Business, Finance, Marketing and Human Resource related courses. The skills developed during the A level course provide a solid base for a very wide range of degree courses. Note also that business related degree courses provide among the highest earning premiums (additional lifetime earnings compared to non degree) of all degree subjects.
