Photography BTEC at George Salter Academy
This course provides students with a practical introduction to Photography and allows students to develop their personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical photographic forms.
Students will produce practical work in areas such as contemporary portraiture, landscape Photography, image editing and working to a design brief.
Progression routes from this course
Many students who continue their Photography course choose to follow a path towards degree-level courses, usually via a foundation Photography/art course. The course is practical enough to allow students entry directly to employment or apprenticeships.
Students will produce a portfolio of Photography work on a set themes/ assignments. Candidates may submit in their portfolio:
• A selection of thoughtfully presented work that exhibits a thorough investigation into an idea, concept, theme or issue.
• Critical/contextual work which could include written materials such as journals, reviews, reflections and evaluations, annotations and historical background material.
Centre assessed by portfolio/coursework. Edexcel moderated. Graded at pass, merit or distinction.
Students do not have to have studied Photography previously, but will be expected to demonstrate an interest in the subject.
