Computer Games Development Advanced Extended Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This highly practical course will further develop your creative abilities, with an emphasis on the skills needed for producing computer games.

If you do not have GCSE Maths or English at grade A*-C, you will also develop these skills.  This will support your main programme of study, future progression and life skills.

Course content

Units studied will include:

  • Creative Media Production Management
  • Computer Game Platforms and Technologies
  • Object Oriented Design for Computer Games
  • 3D Environments
  • Critical Approaches to Media Products
  • Computer Game Engines
  • Computer Game Design
  • Computer Game Story Development
  • Human Computer Interfaces
  • English or Maths (if necessary)

Entry requirements

You will need to have passed each of the units in the 90-Credit Diploma to progress to this programme.  You should also have demonstrated the behaviour and attitude required to be successful on the programme.

Assessment

You will be assessed through project-based practical work framed within industry scenarios, written assignments and presentations.

Learners studying English or Maths will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Upon successful completion of this course, you can consider further study and career opportunities in areas such as game programming, game modelling and animation, game design, game art animation and special effects.
