Games, Animation, and VFX Skills NextGen Level 3 Extended Diploma at Carshalton College

Course description

Designed by industry in collaboration with educators, the NextGen Level 3 Diploma in Games, Animation and VFX Skills ensures young people are industry ready with the right skills and knowledge for the workplace. It equips students with a foundation in art, design, maths and computing skills, which are highly desirable to industry.

This is a course with multiple destinations for students, but at its heart it is defined by the skills that the creative industries of Games, Animation and VFX need for the future innovation and growth. It's much more than just a qualification - it's the start of a career journey.

 

Course content

Over 2 years students work as teams, on project briefs designed to develop team working, communication and critical thinking skills. Maths and coding are taught, not as stand alone subjects, but in the context of the art, design and creation of Games, Animation and VFX. We welcome artists and scientists in equal measure!

This is a vocational education supported by industry and delivered by elite colleges, selected by an industry panel with an excellent track record of academic achievement and working collaboratively in partnership with industry.

Entry requirements

4 Grade C+ GCSE's, including Maths and English (preferably at grade B+)

Possesion of a laptop suitable for professional working would also be an advantage.

Admission is by interview where you will be expected to demonstrate your commitment to a career within the sector, normally this would be via a short showreel or portfolio of work/artwork that you have undertaken.

Future opportunities

The two year course leads to an AIM Awards Diploma in Games, Animation and VFX Skills. Aim Awards specialise in qualifications for the creative industries and are regulated by Ofqual.

Comparable to 3 A Levels and eligible for UCAS points, the course empowers student's choice on graduation.

  • Many will choose to move to University to take a specialist degree.
  • Others may seek an apprenticeship, starting work while continuing their learningon one of NextGen's job specific Higher Level Apprenticeships.
