Physical Education AS/A Level at Easingwold School

Course description

This course provides you with an insight into the world of sport as well as giving you the opportunity to consider and raise your own performance.
The subjects you learn about will be invaluable at a personal level and will help you to be better at sport, no matter what your standard.

Course content

There are seven main study topics covered over the two years. These include;
1. Applied anatomy and physiology.
2. Skill acquisition.
3. Sport & society.
4. Biomechanical movement.
5. Sports psychology.
6. Sport and society and the role of technology.
7. Exercise physiology


The course can be split to enable students to take the AS exam at the end of the first year, or they can wait until the end of the second year and sit the A2 exam, or do both.
At AS level 30% is practical and a 2 hour exam at the end of Year 12 is worth 70%.
At A2 30% is practical and there are two 2 hour exams which are worth 35% each.
For the practical components of both AS and A2 students can either perform or coach in a sport of their choice. The sport does not have to be on the approved list of activities. As part of their practical mark they also have to complete a written or verbal analysis of their performance.

Future opportunities

This A level also opens up a whole number of career options; physiotherapist, teacher, instructor, sports management etc.
