Business and Applied Law Level 3 at West Suffolk College

Course description

This is a second year option for those studying Business Extended Diploma. Law has an effect on everything we do: being employed, driving a car, buying a computer game or new shoes. At West Suffolk College, you will learn about a subject that will influence your entire life, gaining knowledge from staff who have real life experience in industry and a true passion for business and law.

 

Course content

You will gain an understanding of the English legal system learning, for example, the difference between civil and criminal law and all about homicide and police powers. There will be trips to Crown Court and magistrates’ courts to watch real trials. You will take part in mock trials where you will act as a barrister and experience what it is like to undergo a criminal trial. Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects in each academic year.

 

Entry requirements

You will need to hold GCSE maths and English at Grade C (4) or above. In your first year of your Extended Diploma, you will need to have gained top grades D*D* and have an excellent attendance and punctuality record.

Future opportunities

You can go onto higher education and complete a BA honours degree or combined honours in law or alternatively enter straight into employment as a paralegal.
