Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Ivybridge Community College

Course description

A two year full-time programme of study, which provides an excellent stepping stone for those wishing to pursue a career in Sport and Recreation, or want to progress onto Higher Education. This programme will lead to an Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) awarded by BTEC.

Students will follow the following modules and more:

Year 1

Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport

The Physiology of Fitness

Leadership in Sport

Sport Injuries

Organising Sports Events

Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise

Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport

JSLA (Junior Sports Leader Award)

Year 2

Sports Coaching

Exercise Health and Lifestyle

Sports Development

Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise

Analysis of Sports Performance

Sports Nutrition

Entry requirements

In order to be considered for an Advanced Subsidiary Course, which leads to a full Advanced Level, students will be expected to have gained an absolute minimum of five GCSE grades at C or above in Mathematics and English, with a minimum of B grades in their chosen subjects having been studied at a higher tier. Students achieving a C grade at GCSE in their chosen subject may be accepted only by negotiation and agreement with the Team Leader for that subject.
