Physics A Level at Consett Academy

Course description

Do you want to investigate the limits of space, the beginning of time and everything in between? How about understanding how the technology around you works? Want to save the planet or maybe just help people get better when they are ill?

Or maybe you don't care about any of this and just want to earn lots of money?

Well it doesn't really matter.

Whatever you do, the knowledge and skills you gain by studying Physics will be useful.

Physics is more than a subject - it trains your brain to think beyond limits and boundaries.

Course content

Students will cover both practical and theory based skills, with topics covering forces and motion, electrons, waves and photons, The Newtonian World and Astrophysics, particle and medical physics.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE Physics with at least a grade B, or Double Award (Science and Additional Science) with at least a grade B
  • GCSE Mathematics with at least a grade A

Future opportunities

Of all the subjects listed for entry on to a degree, Physics came second only to Maths in the number of times it was listed as essential in a recent report by twenty of the leading UK universities.

Not only is Physics a preferred subject for university, it is also the first step towards careers in not just engineering and science, but also finance, law, architecture and journalism.
