Modern Foreign Languages (French, German and Spanish) *Fees Payable* at Cobham Hall *Fees Payable*

Course description

Choosing to study a Modern Language at A Level is the smart route to a great future in today’s global, multilingual and interconnected world. This two-year programme builds on the skills acquired at GCSE to boost communicative fluency and to immerse students in the culture and heritage of the country where the language is spoken. The course is linear, with final examinations at the end of the two years. Key topics cover contemporary political and social issues relevant to teenagers and to their future careers. Students also study works of literature and film as a means of cementing and contextualising the linguistic and cultural content of the course. More than one language can be studied.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to study a language would need a GCSE or IGCSE Grade 6 (B) or equivalent. In certain cases, Grade 5 (C) depending on interview.

Future opportunities

Progression after Sixth Form: Fluency in a Modern Language is increasingly valued both in the UK and throughout the world. Students with an A Level in either French, German or Spanish (or a combination of these) score consistently highly in applications to university, even in disciplines seemingly unrelated to the languages themselves. Proficiency in a Modern Language can equip students to pursue future careers in fields as diverse as the Law, Business, Finance, Journalism, the Arts and the Media, to mention just a few.
