English Language GCSE at East Norfolk Sixth Form College

Course description

This is a new version of the GCSE, and will focus on developing your reading and writing skills. In class, you will practice exam technique, and read a range of texts to develop your analytical skills.

Literacy workshop sessions will target areas you are less confident with, which will also help you with your other subjects.

Course content

Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing

This is worth 50% of the GCSE

Section A: Reading

  • Response to a piece of unseen literary fiction

Section B: Writing

  • Descriptive or narrative writing

Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives

This is worth 50% of the GCSE

Section A: Reading

  • One non-fiction text and one literary non-fiction text

Section B: Writing

  • Writing to present a viewpoint

Spoken Language tasks will assess your presenting skills, as well as the way you respond to questions and feedback, and your use of Standard English.

Entry requirements

A D grade in a previous GCSE English or English Language exam.

Assessment

Awarding Body - AQA

100% Examination – 2 written exams to be taken in the summer

There will also be Spoken Language assessments, which will be assessed in class and separately endorsed.
