Religous StudiesAS/A2 at Mangotsfield School

Course description

This course encourages students to consider the place of
religion within society and to develop enquiring, critical
and reflective skills. The A/S course studied in Year 12
consists of two units, as does the A2 course studied in
Year 13:
- A/S Religion, Art and the Media (Year 12). This unit
covers the range and importance of religious art;
religion and popular culture, including religion in
fiction and comedy; and cyber and TV religion which
considers religion on the Internet and on television.
- A/S Religion and Ethics (Year 12). This unit covers
Utilitarianism, the idea that actions are right if they
produce the greatest happiness; Situation Ethics,
which says that we should respond to moral decision
with love; religious teachings on the nature and value
of human life; and abortion and euthanasia.
- A2 (Year 13). Two units will be chosen with student
input. Units chosen so far have been "Studies in
religion and Ethics", "Studies in Religion and
Philosophy" and "Religious Fundamentalism".

Entry requirements

A grade B or above for short or full course ReligiousStudies.
