Health & Social Care BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Alsop High School

Course description

You would select this course if you have an interest in health and wellbeing. Students who select this course may be studying PE or Science and would like to develop their knowledge of health. If you would like to pursue a career of working with adults or children you will gain an insight into their growth and development and how to communicate and support their needs. You will develop an understanding of health in our modern society and may also have the opportunity to complete an extended project as part of this course.

Course content

Health and Social Care can be offered at a variety of different levels and you will look at the growth and development through life stages, analysing impacts on growth and development. The units of work develop interpersonal skills, health and safety in the workplace and how to treat individuals with respect and dignity.

You will have to investigate communication, health and safety and individual rights within the health and social care sector. These are all fundamental aspects of working with children and adults in the field of health and social care. You will develop the skills of communicating on a one to one basis as well as group interactions.

Future opportunities

Students who have selected this course have followed careers into Health, Physiotherapy, Midwifery, Social Work and Education. Health and Social Care is a valued course in terms of university applications. However, students also select this course who wish to pursue apprenticeships in childcare or move straight into employment as a care assistant or nursery nurse.
