Course content

COURSE INFORMATION

Students with a creative background in Art or Technology would benefit most from this course. All students will require a digital camera (preferably a DSLR) and be prepared to carry out photo shoot sessions in their own time after school. Students should be aware that there are yearly charges for these courses. Workbooks cost approximately £9.00 and printing costs are approximately £30.

5 A* - C at GCSE including English and Maths.

SPECIFICATION AND UNITS OF STUDY

AS Units Studied:

• Unit 1 - Portfolio:

- Teacher Assessed – Moderated by AQA

• Development of a coursework portfolio exemplifying work carried out during the AS course. Candidates choose one of the endorsements for study throughout AS.  The contents of the Portfolio will be determined by the nature of the course of study.

Assessment - Coursework 80 marks

AS Level - 50% A Level - 25%

 

• Unit 2 - Externally-Set Assignment:

- Teacher Assessed – Moderated by AQA

• An externally-set assignment.  Separate question paper for photography endorsement containing five starting points.  Candidates choose one.

Assessment - Externally-Set Assignment 80 marks

AS Level - 50% A Level - 25%

Supervised Time - 5 hours

 

A2 Units Studied:

• Unit 3 - Personal Investigation:

- Teacher Assessed – Moderated by AQA

• A personal investigation in which candidates develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme.  Candidates are required to develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme supported by 1000 - 3000 words.

Assessment - Coursework 80 marks

A Level - 25%

 

• Unit 4 - Externally-Set Assignment

- Teacher Assessed – Moderated by AQA

• An externally-set assignment. Separate question papers for photography endorsement containing eight starting points. Candidates choose one.

A Level - 25%

Supervised Time – 15 hours

Future opportunities

WHERE CAN THE COURSE LEAD?

The A Level Photography course would complement A levels in Art and / or Technology but could also be useful as a skill in many other subject areas.  This is a practical subject that would be advantageous to career opportunities that require a design orientated approach.
