Course description

The Level 2 Award in Coaching Studies has been developed to provide learners aged 14 years of age and above, with an introduction to the principles of coaching. This includes both the practical and theoretical aspects of the coaching process. The L2ACS does not qualify candidates to coach a particular sport. However, it will enable candidates to develop and acquire a basic understanding of how to plan, organise and deliver a variety of sports or games related activities under supervision. It will also provide an appreciation of the coaching process, the benefits of exercise, healthy lifestyle, safe practice and ethics in sport. The aim is to provide candidates with an introduction to the basic principles of the coaching. It has been designed to enable candidates to study both the theoretical and practical aspects of the coaching process. It offers candidates the opportunity to promote their knowledge and understanding of: equal opportunities, ethics and fair play in sport the health benefits and risks associated with sport and physical activity the fundamental principles relating to nutrition, psychology, anatomy and physiology in sport the coaching process how to plan and deliver a range of sports or games coaching sessions how to apply the rules of selected sports or games how to evaluate and improve personal coaching practice/performance
