GCE AS Level Fine Art - Graphic Design at Queen Elizabeth School

Course description

This course will give you the chance to explore the world of graphics and experiment with different techniques. Graphic Design is under the 'ART' umbrella and specialises in exploring visual communication for its own sake or for commercial use. AS Graphic Design has two assessed units: 1. Coursework Portfolio - this unit gives you the opportunity to build new skills and explore different techniques needed to understand design briefs. You also learn to analyse both your own work and the work of others in contemporary, historical and cultural contexts. 2. Controlled Assignment (5 hour exam) - A formal examination where you have to design a personal response to a theme in preparation for a five hour exam where you create a final piece or pieces in response to the theme.

Entry requirements

GCSE passes in 5 subjects with grades A - C (preferably A - B) plus an interview and a reference.
