Health & Social Care - BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at John Ruskin College

Course description

This course will help develop your knowledge and practical skills within Health and Social Care settings.

Course content

The Course consists of the following Core and Mandatory Units: human lifespan development, health and social care values, effective communication in health and social care, and healthy living.


The course also includes the following optional units: social influences on health and wellbeing, promoting health and wellbeing, the impact of nutrition on health and wellbeing, equality and diversity, individual rights, human body systems and care of disorders and the health and social care sector.

Entry requirements

Aminimum of English Language GCSE at grade D or above (or equivalent) AND Maths GCSE at grade D or above (or equivalent) and any of the below (unless stated otherwise):


• 2 other GCSEs at grade D (or above) OR
• Level 1 BTEC Certificate (or above) OR
• Level 1 VRQ Certificate (or above) OR
• Pass at Level 1 NVQ

Assessment

Human Lifespan Development and Healthy Living units are assessed by external examinations. All other units are coursework based assessments which will require you to complete written assignments, projects, role-plays or presentations. You are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours work placement (1 day a week) in a nursery, residential care home or any other suitable placement. You will be supported by the Work Based Learning Co-ordinator for this.
