Horticulture - Level 2 at Askham Bryan College

Course description

An introduction to landscaping, sports turf and horticulture, which is suitable for anyone wanting to prepare for more advanced study or a career in all aspects of horticulture. The course consists of classroom based work and practical sessions using specialist horticulture equipment and facilities. 

Course content

Course Themes:

• Landscape surfaces and foundations • Construct garden walls • Maintain sports pitches • Maintain golf courses • Horticultural science • Health and safety principles of machinery • Weeds, pests and diseases • Plant identification • Greenhouse practices • Establish and maintain turf, fruit and vegetables • English and maths  

Entry requirements

Level 2 Study Programmes:

Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) or above to include two from Maths, English and Science with at least a grade 2 (old GCSE grade E) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 1 vocational qualification with English and Maths at Level 1.

Assessment

Mainly through written assignments and practical evidence.
