Health and Social Care Level 2 Diploma at Carlisle College

Course description

This study programme provides an opportunity to equip individuals with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills for success in employment in the caring field. It is designed for those who wish to work in a care setting e.g. a residential or care home.

Entry requirements

You will need: 4 GCSEs at grades D - E, including Maths and English or Level 1 vocational qualification at Merit or Distintion and Level 1 qualifications in Maths and English or Scottish equivalent. The course requires students to undertake a work placement, which may involve work with children or vulnerable adults. Applicants who do not have a current DBS criminal check will be required to obtain one through the College. In addition you must also have a successful interview, 2 references and pass a vocational related assessment.


Assessment is achieved through project work, assignments and mandatory work experience (60 hours). At the end of the course you will have produced a portfolio.

Future opportunities

The course can lead on to the L3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Work Based Learning NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care, or other similar qualification in a related area. The course may also lead straight to employment in registered care homes, housing, community work and the voluntary sector, hospitals and primary care trusts.
