Physical Education A Level at St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls

Course description

Building on prior learning during GCSE PE, students enhance their knowledge and increase their understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in physical activities. Students can experience a variety of roles and review sports issues.

Assessment

AS Units

  • Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport
  • Assessed: Applied anatomy and physiology, skill acquisition, sport and society
  • Practical: Assessed as a performer/coach in full sided version of one activity

A2 Units

  • Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport
  • Assessed: Applied anatomy and physiology, skill acquisition, sport and society
  • Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport
  • Assessed: Exercise physiology and biomechanics, sport psychology, sports and society and technology in sport
  • Practical: Assessed as a performer/coach in full sided version of one activity

Future opportunities

As a Science-based course, PE forms the foundation for many Medical fields and the study of Sports Sciences at University. Career pathways include Trainer, Coach, Teacher, Sports Doctor, Team Manager, Physiotherapist and Journalist.
