Hairdressing Level 1 at Wiltshire College

Course description

Whilst studying on the Level 1 Hairdressing course, you will work alongside Level 2 Hairdressing students in an assisting role. English and Maths functional skills will also be completed.
Competitions and work experience is an essential part of your course and you will be expected to attend a salon one-day a week. This will give you hands-on practical experience of working in the industry.

Course content

There are 14 units to be achieved for the Level 1 qualification:
  •     Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector
  •     Presenting a Professional Image in a Salon
  •     Follow Health and Safety in the Salon
  •     Working with Others
  •     Shampoo and Condition
  •     Create an Image using Colour in the Hair and Beauty Sector
  •     Hand Care
  •     Styling Womans' Hair
  •     Styling Mens' Hair
  •     Plaiting and Twisting
  •     Create Hair and Beauty Image
  •     Salon Reception Duties
  •     The Art of Dressing Hair
  •     The Art of Colouring Hair


Entry requirements

Four full GCSEs at E or above, in Maths and English or equivalent. A satisfactory interview and a good reference

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course you could progress onto the Level 2 Hairdressing or apply for an Apprenticeship.
Employment opportunities include:
  • Hairdressing assistant
  • Junior stylist
  • Beauty Therapist assistant
  • Cosmetic counter representatives.
